How many people can a round wedding table accommodate?
The figures below are starting points for a layout. Chair width, place settings and the venue's service standards may change the capacity.
| Table diameter | Comfortable capacity | Tight maximum capacity | In what use? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120 cm | 6 people | 8 people | Small family or group of friends |
| 150cm | 8 people | 10 people | Standard medium-sized event table |
| 180cm | 10 people | 12 people | Large banquet table; The service area should also be checked |
| 200 cm | 12 people | Varies by location | In large halls and in layouts with wide passages |
If the venue says "table for 10 people", do not rely on the number alone. Ask about the actual diameter of the table, the type of chairs, and the space it occupies along with the way it is served.
How to evaluate rectangular table size?
The capacity of a rectangular table depends on the width allocated per person on the long sides and whether chairs are placed on the short sides. A comfortable starting calculation is to consider a table edge of approximately 60 cm per person.
Approximate long side requirement = number of people per side × 60 cm180 × 80 cm
Approximately 8 people can be arranged, with three people on each long side and one person on each short side. If the decoration is large, the short edges can be left blank.
240 × 90 cm
A banquet arrangement can be created for approximately 10 people, with four people on the long sides and one person on the short sides.
How much space should be left around the table?
When drawing the table, include the area the chair will occupy when pulled out. If passing behind the chair, take this space into account.
- Consider at least 45–60 cm of usage space from the table edge to the back of the chair.
- Increase the total clearance if there will be regular passage behind the chairs.
- Leave wider corridors at service routes, entrances and emergency exits.
- Allocate additional space on the relevant table for baby chair, wheelchair and stroller.
- Have the venue manager approve the final plan with actual table and chair dimensions.
Table for 10 people or table for 8 people?
When using a table for 10 people, fewer tables may be required; but there is less space for plates, decor and chairs. If the room is small, compare 8- and 10-person layouts with chairs pulled out.
