WEDDING PREPARATION
Wedding date
how to get it?
You have a date in mind. But have you actually booked it, or only made an application appointment? Start by separating the two so you do not have to change the date on your invitations later.
We explain the process from gathering documents to confirming the date. This guide focuses on a standard application by two adult Turkish citizens and highlights what you need to confirm with your municipality.

Short answer: paperwork, application, then the exact date.
To get a wedding date, you prepare the documents requested by the authorized marriage officer and apply. After the file is reviewed, the appropriate day and time are determined; the approval and payment steps requested by the unit are completed.
Submitting an online form or booking a document-submission appointment does not by itself confirm the marriage ceremony. Do not commit to printing or reservations until you see a record confirming the date, time and location.
5 steps to book a civil wedding date
Select the marriage unit you will apply to.
First decide where you want to hold the wedding: in the municipal hall or outdoors? Then check the application method and working hours on the official page of that unit. If you are going to call, "Am I making an appointment for the wedding day or for document delivery?" ask. Two processes may not run on the same schedule.
The General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs states that, except for applications to a muhtar's office, you may apply to authorised marriage offices without a residence-address requirement. Living in another district does not by itself prevent an application. Still confirm the required documents with the office concerned.
Find out which transaction the appointment is for.
Some municipalities accept document submission by online appointment; some open pre-applications in their own system. Do not think of these as a single service that works the same way everywhere in Turkey. Open the link from the municipality's official website; do not enter any identifying information on an intermediary page in the search result.
For example, Kadıköy Municipality clearly states that the appointment made for the application is not the wedding date. When you complete the form, read the description on the screen: do you only have the application time or the confirmed wedding day and time?
Prepare the paperwork according to the same checklist.
Instead of both trying to remember separately, use a list. Check together your IDs, health reports, photographs and additional documents requested by the municipality. Receiving one of the documents too early can also cause problems; ask whether the dates are suitable for the period in which the file will be accepted and the marriage will take place.
Even photograph counts differ between municipalities: when checked, Kadıköy requested five and Çankaya four. Rather than ordering from a generic list saying 'six biometric photographs everywhere', use your office's size and quantity requirements.
Submit your file and supply anything missing.
Plan to submit a standard application together and bring your original ID documents. The office checks your identity and paperwork and explains how to resolve anything missing or unsuitable. If either of you cannot attend, do not assume an ordinary authorisation letter is enough: ask in advance about applying through a notarised power of attorney with specific authority.
Applying through a power of attorney and attending the marriage ceremony are separate matters. Both parties must attend the ceremony in person; a proxy cannot stand in for you. If foreign nationality, a previous marriage or a matter requiring a court order is involved, get guidance specific to your application before the appointment.
Confirm the day, time and location in writing.
When the file is found suitable, the day and time are determined from the calendar provided by the unit. Just because the day you want is available doesn't mean you've automatically booked it. Complete the required payment and confirmation steps; check the date, time, hall or outdoor address on the appointment document given to you.
Use this final confirmation before printing the invitations. Know whom to contact about changes or cancellation, through which channel and how far in advance. If another marriage office will perform the ceremony, ask both offices whether your file needs transferring with an evlenme izin belgesi (marriage permission certificate).
What documents are required for marriage application?
Use the list below as a starting point, then compare your final checklist with your chosen office's official page. Instead of combining different municipalities' lists and gathering unnecessary documents, find out what your application actually requires.
Identity document
Prepare original copies of valid IDs. Check whether a photocopy is requested and that the identification information is up-to-date. Do not consider the photo on your phone as a substitute for the actual document.
Marriage declaration
Basic form of the application. Find out where and how the municipality issues the form; Follow the official guidance instead of filling out a different sample found online yourself.
Medical certificate regarding marriage
Required for the application. Ask your healthcare provider about the report and necessary procedures. Do not assume a printout of test results replaces the accepted medical report.
Passport photo
Learn the number and format of the current photo from the municipality. Official statements include the last six months requirement; do not assume that biometric photography is accepted in every unit.
Civil registration / eligibility-to-marry information
Identity and eligibility-to-marry checks are part of the file. For Turkish citizens, distinguish records the office obtains through its system from documents you must supply yourself; do not assume everyone needs the same certificate of unmarried status.
Additional documentation depending on the situation
Foreign nationality, representation, previous marriage, age or court orders may require extra documents, translations and certification. This guide covers a standard application by two adult Turkish citizens; clarify your particular circumstances directly with the marriage office.
Obtain medical guidance regarding the content of the medical report from the healthcare provider. For foreign nationals or special legal situations, this general list may not be sufficient.
Online applications and e-Devlet: what did the screen confirm?
'Your application has been received' is reassuring, but which application was received matters. One system may only book a meeting, while another checks documents in advance. If the municipality offers a service through e-Devlet, read its name and description. Do not assume there is one nationwide form that works identically everywhere and gives you a ceremony date when submitted.
Look for three things at the end of the process: type of transaction, expected next step from you, and confirmed date-time. Save the email or screenshot, but do not share a document marked 'application appointment' as a confirmed ceremony booking. Do not put ID or health information into this site's invitation or seating-plan fields; these are not official application tools.
When to apply, how to find out the fee?
Prepare two date ranges: your first choice and suitable alternatives. Ask the marriage office when bookings open, from what date it accepts the file and which hall or external-venue options are available that day.
Do not confuse document validity with the booking window. A marriage permission certificate being valid for six months does not mean every municipality opens bookings six months ahead. Also ask when the medical report and application file's validity periods start; do not assume the two calculations are identical.
Ask for the fee for your chosen day, time and location rather than simply asking how much a wedding costs. A weekday hall ceremony and a weekend external-venue service may have different prices. Check the written tariff for the family marriage booklet, hall and other services, as well as payment methods, deadlines and cancellation arrangements.
We do not give a fixed 2026 price here: when the municipality and service selection changes, that figure may not suit your application. Get the current tariff from the unit's official page or directly from the marriage unit.

Write down these questions before you call.
- When does the calendar open for the day we want; when can we deliver the document?
- Is the online transaction a document delivery appointment, a preliminary application, or a definitive wedding date?
- What are the number of photographs, their format and the ID photocopy requirement?
- Will the health report and file be valid on the date we choose?
- What are the total price, included services and cancellation terms for the hall or outdoor venue?
- How do we transfer a permission certificate or application file to another marriage office?
At the end of this meeting, you will have the next step in hand: collect documents, go to the appointment, complete the missing work or get the exact date record. Instead of “We'll stop by the municipality sometime,” choose a concrete action that will be on both people's calendars.
Last check before invitation
The boxes below are your preparation note on this page; it does not replace the official application and is not stored when the page is closed. Once you both check the same date, time and address, proceed with the invitation.
Your ceremony and move-in dates do not have to be the same. Keep the post-ceremony steps in the post-marriage formalities checklist keep separate. Especially relationship of address notification to moving and read the ID renewal appointment in advance.
When the date is determined can design the invitation, list of your relatives seating plan you can transfer. If the wedding and the celebration are on different days, write them on separate lines in the invitation; don't let it seem like there is only one date.
Frequently asked questions about marriage application
Where do you book a civil wedding date?
Book through an authorised marriage office. Check the application method on the municipality's official marriage-service page; first prepare the required documents and book an application appointment if one is needed.
Can you book a civil wedding date through e-Devlet?
Do not assume every municipality uses one common wedding-date service. The municipality may use its own online system or offer a service through e-Devlet. An online preliminary application or application appointment may not be the same as a confirmed ceremony booking.
Can we apply outside the district we reside in?
The General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs states that, except for applications to a muhtar's office, couples may apply to authorised marriage offices without a residence-address requirement. Still check your chosen office's document and appointment procedure.
How many months in advance should we get the wedding date?
Date reservation and file acceptance schedule varies by municipality. Ask when the calendar opens for the day you want. Do not confuse six-month document or file validity with the conclusion that reservations can be made six months in advance in all municipalities.
Is it necessary to go together to apply for marriage?
Plan to submit a standard application together. If one of you cannot attend, ask the marriage office about applying through a notarised power of attorney with specific authority. That option does not allow someone to attend the marriage ceremony on your behalf.
How long are the medical report and documents valid?
Confirm with the marriage office how long the application file and medical reports remain valid, when that period begins and whether it covers your chosen ceremony date. The municipal pages checked state six months / 180 days for the medical report; do not leave the process until the last day.
How does the wedding fee vary?
It can vary by municipality, day, time, municipal hall versus external venue, and service package. Check the current official tariff and ask whether the family marriage booklet and other items are included in the total.
Can we print the invitation once we make the application appointment?
First make sure the final ceremony date, time and location are confirmed. Do not print based only on a document-submission appointment. Once you have the final confirmation, compare it line by line with the invitation.
